New Standard
Fragment Retention Lamp Standard BS EN61549 will be effective from Spring 2010 so the food industry can enjoy reliable industry compliant shatterproof fluorescent lamps past 20,000 burning hours by installing lamps carrying the “Black Band” marking. Lamps with the “Black Band” ring contain 100% glass on impact at end of lamp life (20,000 hours) and can be used in any application.
Technical Managers and Auditors can now easily identify genuine shatterproof fluorescent lamps over non compliant types which typically do not contain glass particles past 5,000 hours (8 months use). European Parliament issue new Directive for the Lamp industry

This document will help all organisations to implement Directive 2005/32/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council with regard to ecodesign requirements for fluorescent lamps without integrated ballast, for high intensity discharge lamps, and for ballasts and luminaires able to operate such lamps, and repealing Directive 2000/55/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council.
