Guidance and FAQs

The BRC Global Standard for Food Safety and the way in which this is operated and interpreted is kept under review by the BRC Technical Advisory Committees and the BRC Technical Team in response to questions, comments and requests. In this section you will find a series of useful documents to help keep up to date with any changes to the requirements and help to understand the standard and the way this is audited.

Position statements – Agreed interpretations of how the Standard shall be interpreted and operated. These result from reviews undertaken with the BRC Technical Advisory Committees of the operation of the Standard. These interpretations are binding on the certification bodies and sites requiring certification and become an extension to the Standard. Click here for more information.

Frequently asked questions – We encourage questions from sites and certification bodies where ever clarification is required around specific issues. Where we think these questions may be of general interest we add these to the list of frequently asked questions (FAQs). The questions have been organised by subject area to make these easier to find. Click here for more information.

Guidance Documents - The BRC have developed a series of free to download guidance documents to help with the understanding of specific areas of the Standard.  Click here for more information.

The BRC also publish more extensive Guideline Documents which identify best practice in particular ways of working e.g. Pest Control, Metal Detection; and Interpretation guidelines which explain each clause of the standard. Click here for more information. These guidelines provide an invaluable reference tool when preparing for assessment.
